Years 11 & 12 visit Asda
Years 11 & 12 headed off on the Wednesday bus to visit Asda in Bangor. This trip allowed pupils to see exactly what goes on both on the shop floor and behind the scenes in one of the biggest supermarkets in the UK. Our pupils got to see and experience lots of different things while we were there including: using the checkouts, watching security videos, seeing the warehouses, and visiting all of the different departments and stockrooms. We also got to chat to the staff and asked lots of questions to find out all about what working in Asda was like.
We would like to thank Sarah and her colleague from Asda who gave us the tour of the store and made our visit very interesting and worthwhile. We think we could have lots of pupils interested in work experience posts in Asda in the future.

Paralympic Champion visits Killard
On Tuesday 23rd October we were very honoured to welcome Paralympic Swimming Champion Bethany Firth to Killard. Many of our pupils know Bethany from competing against her at interschool sporting events over the last few years.
Bethany swam at the Paralympics in London 2012 and brought home the gold medal. She came to Killard to speak about her Paralympic success and to show us her winning gold medal.
We held a special assembly to mark the occassion. Bethany answered questions from our pupils on her 2012 Paralympic experience.
Some of the questions and answers:
How did you feel when you won your gold medal?
First of all I thought I had come 3rd, when I found out I had won I was delighted!
How long do you train for each day?
I get up at 4.30am and train for 2 hours in the pool.
Did you take part in the opening or closing ceremonies?
I was not allowed to go to the opening ceremony as I had a race the next day. I had to go home early before the closing ceremony as I was injured.
Did you wear armbands when you first learn't to swim?
No I didn't I only learn't to swim when I started Longstone. I didn't like it at first but after 3 lessons my swimming teacher told my mum I had a talent.
What competition are you training for next?
Commonwealth Games in 2 years time and the next Olympics in Rio.
Everyone at Killard would like to thank her for visiting our school and we wish her the best for her future competitions and events.
