Pets As Therapy
P5 with Mickey and Elaine
As part of the Pets as Therapy Programme, one of their volunteers- Elaine Burns brings her dog Mickey into school to visit the children. She has been regularly coming in to visit P5 and presented each of them with a personalised T-shirt with Mickey on it which was a lovely momento of the year. P5 then made her a book using the photographs that they had taken during the year.
Giving Voice Coffee Morning
On Friday 10th June, the Speech & Language Therapy staff at Killard House School hosted a Coffee Morning as part of the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists’ national “Giving Voice” campaign, designed to raise awareness of how speech and language therapy is vital in making a difference to people with speech, language and communication needs, their families and the wider society.
The event was well attended by both parents and local political health and education representatives.
Speech bubbles completed by children, school staff and parents were on display, highlighting the positive impact of speech and language therapy.
Presentations were made to the children who had completed the best speech bubbles and a cake with the winning speech bubble emblazoned on top was unveiled. (The mother of Rachel Barr in P4 baked and decorated the cake for the event).
The Parent Staff Association (PSA) kindly provided the tea/coffee and tray-bakes and were delighted to raise over £180 towards the school fund.
An informative and enjoyable morning was had by all.
The Speech & Language Therapy Team at Killard would like to pass on their thanks to all those who attended and/or contributed in any way to making it such a success.
